"For me, the door to the woods is the door to the temple." -Mary Oliver, Upstream

As a watercolorist and illustrator, my artwork is inspired by the supreme wonder and awe of being outdoors.

From a young age, I felt deeply connected to nature. Growing up, my wavy blonde hair was typically in knots from spending time climbing trees, making mud pies, or riding my bicycle. I also had a deep reverence for animals—flipping over stranded horseshoe crabs during walks on the beach...learning how to spot diamondback terrapin turtles crossing the road...hearing cicadas drone during humid summer afternoons...and being lulled to sleep by the evening songs of whippoorwills.

My artistic practice is landscape-based, with a focus on flora and fauna, as well as seasonal phenology; cyclical, biological phenomena, such as aspen trees magically turning gold every fall, the annual migration of ruby-throated hummingbirds, wildflower superblooms, or caddis flies emerging from the Roaring Fork River next to my home.

I interpret these moments in whimsical and interpretive ways, versus more precisely or scientifically. My preferred medium of watercolor aligns well with my overall practice, knowing how precious water is as a resource here on the Western Slope of Colorado, as well as its fluidity and flow. Overall, I strive to capture a sense of connection and mysticism within my work, where humans are fully embraced as one with nature and all creatures hum along in the enchanting, sacred glow of the wild.
